Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba Recognizes Relationship between UAE and Texas

While on a two-day trip to Dallas in early 2012, Yousef Al Otaiba, United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the United States, remarked upon the powerful commercial, cultural, and social ties that connect the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the state of Texas. The Ambassador believes that the UAE’s interaction with the Lone Star State is an ideal example of a productive bilateral relationship, one that could lead to millions of dollars in economic activity on a local scale.

Commercial ties and collaborative efforts in various industries, including defense, health care, and hospitality, account for the nearly $2 billion in goods and services that Texas exported to the UAE in 2011. Nonstop flights now offered by Emirates Airlines between Dallas and Dubai are expected to result in more mutual investments between the cities.

According to Ambassador Al Otaiba, total trade between the UAE and the United States in 2011 reached in excess of $18 billion, an increase of 43 percent over 2010.
